All of our Siding is free of any chemically produced additives.

How to Install

  • Apply a vapor barrier to the wall.
  • Attach 3/4″ furring strips over the vapor barrier every 16″.
  • Start at the bottom of the wall… To start the installation of a siding board predrill holes above each furring strip with a 1/8″ drill bit. If Ipe Plugs are going to be used to conceal this initial fastener then a 3/8″ drill bit should be used to make a hole for each Ipe Plug to fit into.
  • Drive a 3″ stainless steel screw through the 1/8″ predrilled hole in the last step. This will secure the bottom half of each siding board.
  • Next, with a 1/8″ drill bit predrill a hole through the narrow part of the siding board that protrudes against the wall on the top of the board.
  • Drive a 3″ stainless steel screw through the 1/8″ predrilled hole in the last step. There is no need to worry about plugging this hole as the next board that is installed will cover this fastener.
  • Repeat the above steps for the rest of the siding boards up the wall.

Is IPE is Naturally Resistant To Bugs & Termites?

Termite resistant wood Miami

When it comes to picking out wood for your deck, it is critical that you find termite resistant wood to save yourself from a headache later down the road. People believe that one of the best woods is IPE wood decking, but some aren’t quite sure. That is why the experts at Prime Wood Decking in Miami are breaking down all of the information and details about this wood and why it may be in your best interest to choose this wood. Keep reading for all of the details!

Why IPE Is The Top Termite Resistant Wood

There is nothing worse than getting a termite infestation in your house or deck. These small bugs that resemble ants can do massive damage in a short amount of time. That is why when you are picking out wood for your deck, it is critical that you pay attention to the type of wood you are choosing. For example, woods like cedar and redwood are naturally resistant to a termite infestation. However, other woods are highly susceptible to termites and quickly become their next snack. Although they are naturally resistant to termites, the truth is that they won’t last that long. These types of wood have not been able to stand the test of time, which means that choosing them means you will need to do constant staining, finishing, and maintenance to make sure that they look as good as the withstand the bugs! If you choose other types of wood, there are ways to make them termite resistant, like treating them with different products and chemicals, but these can end up causing harm to you, your family, and even your pets.

This is why so many homeowners have started looking into IPE wood decking when they want to build a new deck for their home. IPE wood was tested by the U.S Naval laboratory and what they found was that the wood could stand against termite attacks for about fifteen years. There hasn’t been any other wood that has been able to withstand termite attacks in-ground for that long. This means that picking the right wood for your deck project has the ability to save you a lot of time and money because you’ll be able to avoid having to change boards or treating the deck for termites to get rid of them. Not only has the IPE wood been able to withstand termite attacks, but it is able to stand against time and conditions, keeping its natural look and appeal. By choosing IPE wood you may have to spend a little more money upfront, but think about the amount of money that you will save by avoiding potential problems in the future, it is a sound investment that will be able to last as long as your home.

What Type of IPE Decking Should I Get?

ipe lumber in Miami

IPE is one of the best natural wood decking materials on the market today. Prime Wood Decking has become a leading IPE lumber distributor. We maintain one of the largest Miami deck builders in the United States.

What Grade Do You Sell On IPE Decking?

We carry all high-quality premium IPE wood. This is the highest grade wood available that is hand-selected and basically free from defects. The low levels that we don’t carry are commercial wood and IPE grade utilities, all of which are exported to Asia and Europe.

What Size of Wood Deck IPE Lumber Sells for IPE Decking?

We carry 4 inches and 6 inches wide in 5/4 inches and 1-inch thickness as our standard decking thickness. The length we offer is from 7 to 20 feet. Even though we have available IPE wood with a width of 4 to 12 inches and a thickness of 1 to 8 inches is also available.

Can I Choose a Certain IPE Decking Length?

If we have stock, you are welcome to choose a certain length. But we may not have a certain length depending on the availability of our current stock.

Am I Saving Money Depending on the Length of IPE Decking That I Ordered?

Yes, because certain lengths are harder to come and their high demand is valued differently.

Do You Need to Use Hidden Fasteners or Top Screws?

Depends on the look you want. When installed, your option is a top screw that is flat; screw-top counters and sinks, and hidden fasteners. So it all depends on whether the appearance of the screw is a problem with your aesthetic plan for your patio or decking. That said, top locking is usually safer than hidden fasteners and hidden fasteners add around $ 1 per foot for the price of your project.

What Thickness Should I Order?

This choice depends on many different factors including what you want from your deck including the final appearance – do you like boards that are thicker or thinner? Also, the area and environment of residence have a big effect because depending on the amount of extreme temperature, you want a thicker board for snow loads. What do you use (pool, restaurant, sea dock, etc.)? Depending on the traffic load, building code, and desired usage, you will want different thicknesses. Will this decking be used for decks or porches? Depending on the last use, you might want a thicker board. What type of ventilation under the deck is available? The less ventilation below, the more space you want to place between the boards and the thicker the board you want to be to resist the flexibility of the moisture. Also, the amount of direct sunlight can affect the optimal thickness. So, really the best plan is to design your deck and then contact our Miami deck builders for advice on the best thickness for your needs.

Will IPE Wood Turn Grey?

ipe deck oil in Miami

IPE, or otherwise known as, Brazilian pecan, is a lovely and intriguing wood from South America. IPE wood structures are hard, solid, and normally impervious to spoil, scraped spot, climate, and creepy crawlies. It is twice as thick as most woods and up to multiple times harder. It is medium to darker brown in shading, similar to mahogany and it has the excellence of a fine inside wood. When building a deck, there are many things to consider. What color you should select? What  type of wood should you should choose? Like other wood, IPE wood can turn grey but it can be avoided by adding a protective seal ~ IPE deck oil. At Prime Wood Decking, we are here to provide all the information you need when it comes to deck ideas. When it comes to wood decks Miami residents trust us as the best option. We are IPE decking specialists.

The Best Wood Sealant: IPE Deck Oil.

The weathering process of wood is caused by a mix of chemical, mechanical and some biological changes, all of that occurs instantaneously and also affects each other. For example, when air moves over the surface of a wood deck, several things like dirt, pollens, pollutants causes replacement of the exposed colored cells of the wood. This also occurs because of the exposure to sun ultraviolet rays, and also the salt particles in the coastal areas. This is the reason why IPE wood turns grey in color.

Therefore, while working with a wood surface it’s vital to use a sealant to prevent the wood surface from all sorts of outside damage. Failing to do so results in wood damage and money wasted in its repair. Our experts ensure that IPE decking is protected with a good sealant like IPE oil.

Benefits of IPE Oil

A sealant for IPE wood like IPE oil helps in providing a good coating to the wood, thereby offering a good cost advantage. If you are not sealing the wood, then you are exposing the expensive topcoat to outside environment, thereby wasting some of your money. So, consider a case where you can broaden the life of your IPE decking without the requirement of resurfacing. Simply by a coating of IPE oil. It offers

  • Protection from UV rays.
  • A quick method that liven up the appearance of the IPE deck.
  • An effective approach to increase the life of your deck without enlisting someone to restore it.

Why Building Decks With IPE Wood Costs More (but is Worth It)

IPE Decking cost in Miami

It is no secret that some decking materials cost more than others and the IPE decking cost is on the higher end of the spectrum, but it is worth every penny! When you are building a deck, you want to make sure that you are using the best materials on the market that way you won’t find yourself needing to repair or replace anything in the next few years. That is why it is time to consider IPE wood Miami! Prime Wood Decking in Miami can help you understand why this wood is more expensive than others and why it is worth the extra cost. Keep reading to find out more!

How Much Does IPE Decking Cost?

When it comes to choosing a material for a deck, everyone has their own opinions about what will look the best and what material is worth the price. Over the years many people have been opposed to using IPE wood because of a number of different concerns about it. However, this material is one of the most exquisite that you can choose from. It’s time to learn why you should be considering IPE wood Miami for your next project!

One common objection to IPE wood is that it is extremely hard to cut. That is because this wood is a high-density tropical wood, which is why builders and construction workers use a carbide saw blade to cut through it. These blades give a clean and exact line when they are cutting, and it is also done quickly. The fact that this material is so hard should be considered a good thing, not a negative one because it ensures that the wood and your deck will last longer. Also, because of how hard IPE wood is it is scratch resistant, which is perfect for an outside deck that sees a lot of foot action. The wood is so hard and dense that water can barely seep through, which is another positive aspect of using this material since it’s always outside you want to be sure that it can withstand any conditions. Another concern that a lot of people have with IPE wood is that they think it needs to be pre-drilled before it can be installed, but this isn’t always true. Of course, pre-drilling is an installation option; it is not the only one. There are other methods for installing IPE wood that doesn’t involve pre-drilling. Thanks to advancements in technology IPE deck screws have been created and designed to self-drill as the deck boards are being installed. All natural materials, especially natural wood, change color over time and IPE hardwood is no different. These boards will naturally turn a gray color as the years go by. As the decking oxidizes, the wood will turn a silver-gray color, but there is no damage done to the integrity of the IPE wood. The boards will remain as tough and hard as they were the day they got installed.

Hardwoods Are Best For Dogs

When it comes to wood flooring and your dog, there are certain considerations that need to go into the choosing process, as you will want to pick a flooring that is the best choice for your home and specific situation. Firstly, you will want to think about getting pre-finished wood floors. The reason for this is that pre-finished wood floors are floors that are stained and sealed in the factory with multiple layers of alligator skin-tough aluminum oxide-impregnated urethane finish, giving it plenty of protection against your dog’s scratching. Another consideration is to always choose hardwood when you are getting a new floor. Softwoods (for example pine or fir) are not great choices for houses who have dogs, as there isn’t any amount of site-applied surface preparation that can protect softwoods against the claws of your pooch. Lastly, it’s important to get solid rather than engineered wood flooring. Engineered wood flooring consists of a sandwich of laminated wood with a real hardwood veneer on top, and can be a great product- just not for your dog. The problem with engineered wood versus solid wood is that it can only take a small amount of light sandings, so if you sand scratch marks hard to get rid of them, it poses a risk of exposing the structural wood underneath.

Best Wood Floorings For Dogs

So what are the best wood floorings for dogs? Prime Wood Decking, who provides wood decks Miami homeowners trust, is here to tell you. The best choice when it comes to hardwood floors are pretty much always exotics. Brazilian hardwood flooring is universally hard and dense, and is a wood that is so hard that it is regularly used on exterior decks. This type of wood is great for homes with dogs, as it is hard enough to stand up to the scratch and wear of your dog’s claws on your floor.

Get A Custom Pool & Hot Tub Deck Today

above ground pool decks at Miami

We live in the Sunshine State and Summer is just around the corner. The weather is already getting steamy. When you think about the number one pastime for a hot summer day, what first comes to mind? A swimming pool. The best thing to do is to take a splash with your friends and family. Why not transform your deck into a pool deck and complement it with a hot tub? At Prime Wood Decking, our professionals are here to make sure you have all the information when it comes to building above ground pool decks. We take pride in being Miami deck builders.

Check Out These Wood Decking Options!

Today we are talking about some unique decking options for your new backyard oasis. Wood decking has not been as popular in recent years, but we wanted to explore some beautiful wood designs in case you were in search of some alternatives to the ultra-modern look of hardscaping. However, it is making a comeback.

Check out these options:

  • Natural Stone: This is potentially the most luxurious choice you could choose for a pool deck. While labor-intensive and expensive, the final product is gorgeous and long-lasting. Keep in mind that you will have to perform maintenance on the grout at some point.
  • Stamped Concrete: A popular and customizable option. We suggest a more grooved pattern to eliminate slipping around a wet pool area. The easy and fast installation makes up for the fact that cracks may lead to necessary repairs down the line.
  • Travertine: Depending on your geographic location, travertine can be affordable or a very high-end, custom choice for your pool decking. It stays cool, the color will not fade, and it can withstand freezing temperatures. Travertine is, however, naturally a soft stone and can chip.
  • Pavers: Pavers can add an amazing cobblestoned and unique look to your backyard patio. They are durable, affordable, and easy to repair. They can feel rough on bare feet around the pool, but you are more likely to avoid slips this way.
  • Brick: A traditional patio material secured into a concrete base for permanent stability is always an option. It is easy to replace single bricks when one gets cracked or damaged, but in general, brick is long lasting and durable. Bricks can feel hot on the feet, and it will need to be resealed after power washes.
  • Grass or Turf: This may seem obvious, but you can always forgo decking altogether and use grass as your surrounding pool material. Grass can easily get into the pool, creating additional maintenance procedures. Overall though, the grass is inexpensive and natural looking.

Wood Takes The Lead With Above Ground Pool Decks

All of the above options serve as great contenders for pool decks, but none are as stunning as wood. Wood decking can be beautiful and even modern looking! It will fit with almost any aesthetic you are trying to portray. Also, there is less cleaning: dirt and sand (if you are lucky enough to have a beach pool) can sift through the wood before the swimmer diving in. Ipe, cedar, and cypress are just a few popular materials people use around their pools. Also,  Brazilian hardwood decking uses is of the highest quality and can withstand the harsh florida weather conditions. Keep in mind, though, that wood can split or rot, and that is why we recommend sealing and performing seasonal maintenance for longevity and protection from the elements.

Learn About Our Santos Mahogany Hardwood

Santos mahogany flooring at Miami

When it comes to hardwood flooring and decking, Prime Wood Decking in Miami is the one to go to. One of our top options with wood decking and flooring happens to be Santos Mahogany Hardwood. Santos Mahogany, also known as Cabreuva, is a recent addition to the palette that is available to woodworkers. Spanish explorers stumbled upon Santos Mahogany in the 16th century, and the tree is still primarily harvested for the distinctive gum that the tree produces. The wood was thought to contain medicinal properties by its original users, and today the resin of this tree is widely utilized throughout the food and cosmetic industry. Read on to learn more about Santos Mahogany Hardwood and the ways that we at Prime Wood Decking are able to work it in order to provide you with the best results with our Santos Mahogany flooring. Call Prime Wood Decking today for your IPE Decking needs!

Santos Mahogany Hardwood

The gum (also known as balsam) of the Santos Mahogany Hardwood consists of a spicy smelling resin, and can be found in cough syrups, soft drinks, and chewing gum for flavoring purposes. The gum of this hardwood will produce volatile oils that are found in perfumes and related cosmetics upon distillation, and the bark of the tree is scored deeply in order to harvest this gum. The harvest of the gum through this type of deep scoring is very harmful to the tree’s health, and can often end up causing disease and death in the trees that they are harvesting from. This is why very few trees of Santos Mahogany Hardwood are now available for lumber production. You are able to find Santos Mahogany organically in the area ranging from Mexico south to Argentina and Brazil. There are plantations of this type of tree that can be found in Africa and Southeast Asia. When planting this type of tree, much care needs to be taken as it is able to quickly become an invasive plant. This type of tree is able to reach heights of 115 feet. However, the tree generally stops growing around 60 feet, with a width of 18 to 36 inches on average. The Santos Mahogany is also able to produce large amounts of knot free lumber, and the heart wood resembles the South American Mahogany, although technically Santos Mahogany Hardwood is not really a member of the Mahogany family.

Santos Mahogany Flooring

The heart wood of Santos Mahogany is able to range from a yellowish brown to one with overtones that are purplish, and the colours will fade upon exposure to light. The colors of this type of tree is similar to genuine Mahogany, and the wood is hard and dense, with interlocked grain. An attractive ribbon stripe is produced when cut on the quarter, and the grain holds a fine texture while being tight. If you are looking for hardwood flooring with this type of wood, Prime Wood Decking is a top provider of hardwood projects such as IPE decking and more.
